Zeke Armstrong --- Zeke is a thirteen-year-old boy who lives with his Uncle Dane in Dallas, Texas. His parents are members of an international organization dedicated to building hospitals and clinics in needy countries. Zeke is a world-traveler and has picked up skills that serve him well: CPR, driving, fluency in foreign languages, and more. He's also an avid athlete and a no-holds-barred detective. Despite a huge secret, he thought he would live a regular life when he moved in with his uncle. But mysteries find Zeke wherever he goes --- and he can't resist solving them.
Uncle Dane --- Zeke's uncle is his father's brother. He lives in Dallas but frequently travels to promote his books. He's a famous author of suspense novels and also writes a series of mysteries under a pseudonym. Uncle Dane is full of "words of wisdom," which he dispenses freely.
Pow Wow Gao --- Thirteen-year-old Pow Wow (sometimes called "Richard" by his parents, especially when he's in trouble) is one of Zeke's best buddies. Pow Wow is also into sports and enjoys helping Zeke with his mystery cases.
Dr. Gao --- Dr. Gao is Pow Wow's dad. He was born in China and moved to the United States as a child. He's an emergency room doctor.
Mrs. Gao --- Pow Wow's mom once worked as a nurse. She met Dr. Gao in a San Francisco hospital, where they both worked. She enjoys eating at fancy dress-up restaurants and loves researching the tourist spots of any area she visits.
