|
Fast Facts
- Winnie's mom died in a car crash when they went out in a blizzard to take a look at a new horse.
- Winnie has a photographic memory and sometimes hates it when her mind pulls up "pictures" of the past.
- When her mother passes away, Winnie is angry at God and stops praying. She tries to put as much distance between herself and Him as possible.
- When Winnie looks at her younger sister, Lizzy, she sees her mom and is sometimes sad.
- At every school where Winnie has been a student, she never feels like she fits in. She's much more comfortable outside in the barn with her horses.
- Once an insurance man, Winnie's dad is now an odd-job/inventor. Winnie is often embarrassed over their lack of money.
- Lizzy's love for God and the casual way she prays aloud encourages and challenges Winnie to consider her own faith.
- Even though Winnie is confident with helping horses, she's frustrated that making friends with her classmates doesn't come as easily and compares herself to the popular Summer Snidell.
- Winnie's mom was a natural horse gentler herself, and Winnie continues to value this connection.
- While Winnie doesn't always recognize it at first, God uses both her horse and people problems to teach her more about His faithfulness and unconditional love in the midst of disappointment and pain.
