THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE was the first book Narnia book to be published even though it's considered #2 in the series' chronological order. Why did C.S. Lewis do is this way? Who knows...maybe to keep us on our toes! But just so you don't get confused, take a look at List of Titles to find out the order of the books as they were published.
