NARNIA
by C.S. Lewis

Fast Facts

  1. C.S. Lewis was one of the most influential Christian writers of his time -- before writing the Narnia Chronicles, he had written many books for adults on religion.

  2. J.R.R. Tolkein, author of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and C. S. Lewis were good friends. In fact, Pauline Baynes was a young illustrator then in her mid-twenties who had recently illustrated J.R.R. Tolkien's latest book, FARMER GILES OF HAM, when Lewis asked her to illustrate THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE. (FYI: In 1998, she added color to all her drawings in all seven books)

  3. When Lewis was 16, the image of a faun carrying parcels and an umbrella in a snowy wood came to him. Many years later, the faun was joined by an evil witch and a magnificent lion --- this image and the three character's stories became THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE.

  4. All throughout elementary and high school, C.S. Lewis was a really bad mathematics student!! He favored subjects like classical music and mythology.

  5. The character of Aslan, the Great Lion, originally came the book TALES FROM THE ARABIAN NIGHTS which C.S. Lewis used to read as a child.
