Spring into a New Book
|
|
Many of you are on Spring Break around now, and so it's a great time to catch up on some pleasure reading. Whether you are going away or staying home, we have books to keep you entertained!
We are going away next week, and I know exactly what my younger son will pack if I do not check his bag --- books, more books and his iPod touch. I know this since one year I did not check and he arrived at the beach with one pair of shorts and a couple of t-shirts, but at least 10 books. So if you are packing, please remember at least four articles of clothing...then a book! The ratio should work out pretty well if you do that.
THE SWORD THIEF, the third book in The 39 Clues series, is now in stores. This fast-paced read, written by Peter Lerangis, is filled with suspense, peril and puzzles, and has orphans Amy and Dan Cahill searching the globe for clues to a mysterious fortune. This ground-breaking series includes trading cards and an online game where readers play a part in the story and can compete for over $100,000 in prizes. Join all the fun at www.The39Clues.com.
Meg Cabot's Allie Finkle's Rules for Girls series has a third book coming out as well. In BEST FRIENDS AND DRAMA QUEENS, the bossy new girl in school, Cheyenne, shakes things up for Allie and her friends. Small town girl Lucky Trimble is back in LUCKY BREAKS, the sequel to Susan Patron's Newbery Award-winning THE HIGHER POWER OF LUCKY. And Erin Hunter's new animal adventure-fantasy series Seekers continues with its second installment, GREAT BEAR LAKE.
Lemony Snicket's newest title, THE COMPOSER IS DEAD, is an orchestra murder mystery that has readers trying to solve the case alongside the Inspector. The book also comes with an audio recording of the San Francisco Symphony, which helps provide clues so you can get to the bottom of this crime story.
Also, be sure to check out Rick Riordan's THE DEMIGOD FILES, the must-have guide to the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. Filled with puzzles, games, interviews and short stories, this is the perfect appetizer leading up to the May release of the fifth and final Percy Jackson novel. And to brush up on some traditional Greek mythology, take a look at THE MYTHOLOGY HANDBOOK, the latest 'Ology offering.
This month we have series feature updates for both Chet Gecko and Geronimo Stilton. In Bruce Hale's newest mystery, FROM RUSSIA WITH LUNCH, crazy inventions and spells turn Chet's school upside down, and Geronimo Stilton goes on a bicycle adventure in THE RACE ACROSS AMERICA.
As always, be sure to take a look at our Cool New Books and New in Paperback roundups, as well as our latest reviews --- which now include graphic novel and manga titles. Speaking of illustrated works, Nickelodeon Magazine recently announced the winners of the first Nickelodeon Magazine Comics Awards, which honors the best comic books, strips and graphic novels for kids published across the U.S. Some of the categories will amuse you, and you might even find yourself coming up with your own list of winners and talking about it with your friends.
Happy reading!
