Happy Holidays from Kidsreads.com!
Most of you are out of school this week, spending the holidays with your families. There is much to celebrate on Kidsreads.com, too. We had a wonderful year filled with interesting interviews with authors, action-packed movies based on books, and of course, many terrific books. Be sure to read our picks for the Best Books of 2008 and this year’s roundup of author interviews. What did you think of this year’s books? Were they the best of the best or just so-so? Let us know by participating in our poll. You can also tell us which ones you’re looking forward to the most in 2009 by answering this month’s question. For some ideas, check out our Coming Soon feature.
While you’re enjoying your winter break, you might want to turn the pages of some of these books that are new on the shelves. Fans of Harry Potter (that’s all of you, I’m guessing) should know that J.K. Rowling has published a brand-new book of short stories called THE TALES OF BEEDLE THE BARD. The next 39 Clues installment, ONE FALSE NOTE, continues to invite you to help solve its mystery online. Another great interactive book is THE FROST DRAGON. Like other titles in the 'Ologies series, there are lots of fun flaps and inserts to examine, and this volume comes with an easy-to-assemble, lifelike hanging model of a dragon! More 3-D fun can be had with Robert Sabuda’s latest creation, PETER PAN. With the help of Sabuda’s incredible pop-ups, the classic story really comes to life. We have also updated our Warriors: Power of Three series feature to include the latest book, LONG SHADOWS. You can read our review as well as play an updated trivia game.
Heading to the movies this month? You might want to see The Tale of Despereaux, based on the book by Kate DiCamillo. If it’s too chilly to head outside and you would rather watch a DVD from your couch, check out Star Wars: The Clone Wars. After you’ve seen the movie, you might want to continue reading the adventures of Anakin Skywalker and friends. Click here to see all the movie tie-in books. Sci-fi fans will not want to miss these!
In September and October we gave 10 readers the opportunity to win the first two books in R.L. Stine's Goosebumps HorrorLand series: REVENGE OF THE LIVING DUMMY (signed by the author himself) and CREEP FROM THE DEEP. Congratulations to all the winners!
Looking for more reading suggestions? Take a look at the Cool New Books and New in Paperback roundups for November and December, as well as this month’s reviews.
Here’s wishing you a fantastic end to 2008...and happy reading in 2009!

Don't Miss: THE TALES OF BEEDLE THE BARD by J.K. Rowling
THE TALES OF BEEDLE THE BARD by J.K. Rowling Loved the Harry Potter series, did you? Then read the five magical stories that Hermione herself translated from the ancient runes. For centuries, Beedle's stories have been read to little wizards and witches as they ready themselves for bed. For you Potter aficionados out there, you now know that Beedle's stories are more than that. Sure, they work as bedtime stories, but they hold in them a legendary power. How else could they have held so many secrets for Harry, Ron and Hermione? Reviewed by Jonathan Stephens.

New Series Feature: Star Wars: The Clone Wars
STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS Fans of Star Wars just can’t get enough of that galaxy far, far away. That’s one of the reasons why Lucasfilm developed an animated television series focusing on the events of the pivotal Clone Wars that helped shape the career, and eventual downfall, of Anakin Skywalker. During the summer of 2008, the creators of Star Wars kick-started the launch of the program with an animated feature film, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which itself sparked a whole range of books designed to appeal to the epic’s younger set. The movie was a box office hit, and the books are likely to be just as popular.
