A NOTE FROM BOOKER

Hello!

Today was a beautiful spring day. The sun was out and the temperature was really warm. So, my next door neighbor set up his new trampoline in his backyard. My neighbor's name is Rapid Reader, and his sister is named Arthurine. The two of them had a really fun time bouncing up and down on the trampoline. I heard them laughing so much, I came out and watched them for a spell. Believe it or not, they talked me into getting on it and trying out some jumps. It was so much fun! Rapid Reader could jump up so high, he seemed to be flying. He even did some flips on it.

After spending time on his trampoline, his mother brought out some lemonade and cookies for all of us to enjoy. She said she could not believe that I got on the trampoline. When we tried to talk her into trying it out, she said she was too scared to get on it. She could not believe someone actually thought up the idea for a trampoline.

Pretty soon, we got talking about different inventions and who thought them up. We wondered who thought up the idea for a toothbrush, a dishwasher, a TV, and lots of other things we use everyday. Rapid Reader ran to his room and brought out a neat book he said I could borrow this evening. It is a book about inventions and the people who thought them up. He said some of the inventions started off really different from what we see today. He said the first computer was as large as a huge room! Now, they are really small. If you would like to find out about how some inventions got started, you might want to read the same book I am going to read called THE KID WHO INVENTED THE TRAMPOLINE.

Passover Books
In the spring, people of the Jewish faith celebrate Passover (or Pesach). It is an eight-day observance of the Israelites' escape from slavery in Egypt during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II. Check out our roundup of Passover books to celebrate and learn more this special holiday.

Easter Books
Easter is a holiday filled with symbolism. It's the cornerstone of what Christians believe --- that Jesus was gloriously resurrected from the dead on Easter, three days after having been crucified. It has also come to represent the celebration of spring and new life, which we see in the symbols of eggs, rabbits and flowers.  See our bright and colorful reviews of Easter books here.

The Royal Diaries Series
Among this series of diaries are those of teenage girls from England, France, Russia, and Angola who played an important role in their country's history. Recreating the true stories of actual people requires additional research to assure that the diaries present an accurate portrait of these teenagers' hopes, fears, and dreams as well as depicting the events that affected them during their lifetime. Readers from ages 9 - 12 can learn about life in another century and another culture from the THE ROYAL DIARIES Series on these historic women.

Young Readers Choice Awards Nominees
The Pacific Northwest Library Association's Young Reader's Choice Award is the oldest children's choice award in the U.S. and Canada. The award was established in 1940 by a Seattle bookseller, the late Harry Hartman, who believed every student should have an opportunity to select a book that gives her or him pleasure. Check out the list of nominees for 2002 here.

Amelia Lends A Hand

Mary, Queen of Scots
This Royal Diaries series is about thirteen-year-old Mary, who has been Queen of Scotland ever since she was nine months old. She used to live in Scotland with her mother, but when King Henry II of France decides she should marry his son, Francis, Mary is sent to live in France. She joins her four sisters and one brother in the King's palace, and that's when Mary, Queen of Scots new life begins.

Poems from fellow Bookworms

*****

I READ the BOOK NIGHTMARE HOUR , I liked I 'M NOT MARTIN. I also liked AFRAID OF CLOWNS. I showed the picture of clowns to my syster and she came up with this poem called:

               CLOWNS EVERYWHERE

               Clowns, Clowns, Everywhere
                   Everywhere I look or stare.
In the street or in the hall,
                          Even in between your walls
They will try to get to you every day,
But Please beware of their evil ways.
Now when I am done don't go and hide,
For I am a clown deep inside.....

When I think of you,
I think of blue
Your smile is as bright as the blue summer sky
Your eyes are shiny like lovely blue sapphires
Your character is as fresh as the purest lake
Your name even reminds me of blueberries
Blue makes me wild about you
Yet blue makes me sad
The fact that you aren't here in my life makes me really blue
We seem like a dark blue starless night
None of this would've happened if it weren't for blue
Because when I think of blue
I think of you

The day the world called 9-1-1

One  day the world came to a stop
Where it usually spun like a top
Osma Bin Laden lead the bergade
Acted like it was a cerade
  The towers came down
  The country wore a frown
  We all cried
  When the innocent people died
Flight 93 fought for other lives to be saved
   We will catch you Osma

Reading is a really fun thing to do.
But it's not fun without you.
So that's why i'm writing this.
So I will say goodbye and blow my kiss.

Note from Booker: Is there a great read that you'd like to tell others about? If so, drop me a note about it at BookerTWorm@aol.com and maybe you'll see it posted in the next newsletter!

I just love the Avalon books! I read The Cry of the Wolf and it was the best book ever! The Avalon books are great!

*****

I love Judy Blume books I read many of her books. I love Blubber and Just As Long As We're together.

*****

Hi, I'm from Washington.  Louis Sachar came to Seattle, and I had a lucky oppurtunity to see him being interviewed.  While I was there, he talked about how his life is, the books he wrote, "Holes", and other info. about him that's on your site.  He's such a great author.  And i think that on your site, if you haven't you should say, he's a really great author and is very talented in writing.

*****

Do you have any advice for a good horror/mystery book? :) My favorite author is Mary Downing Haun. She's kewl.

*****

can you suggest some books that are like "My Louisana Sky"?  I loved this book and  i  would like to read more like it.

*****

I just finished the book "Little Women" and I must say it was WONDERFUL! It is by Louisa May Alcott and is slightly based on her life. We had to do a book report for school on a biography, so I got out two, one on J.K. Rowling (who of course we all love) and one on Louisa May Alcott. My friend didn't have a book yet, so I gave her the one on Louisa. She read it in a few days and LOVED IT! And it was just a biography! As soon as she finished she called and asked if she could borrow my copy of Little Women so she could read it. If just the biography can inspire my friend who hates reading to pick up a 400 page book on her own free will to read imagine what it could do to all of us who love reading!

*****

You should add Takeoffs and Landings by Margaret Peterson Haddix to the list of new age books.

*****

Do you want advise on Little Men by Loisa May Alacot?
Like it or not,here it is;
DO NOT READ IT! It is a boring book, so boring that I couldn't bear to read it any longer. If you had ever watched the t.v. show and read the book, hopefully you have realized how stupid the book is and that the television shows were better!
( I think that she could have done a better job on Little Men in the first place. Little Women is a TON better than Little Men. Thinking about it, maybe people were asking for another book from her so she didn't think much about what she wrote. Also, The way Jo's husband acted in the story to Nat were entirely to harsh.)
P-L-E-A-S-E take my advise!

Hi, I just want to say I love your newsletter, its so helpful with recomdations of books. It helps me find good books when I'm in desperet need of a good book.  I want to also tell you about a book I read called The Wave.  Its a really good book.  Its so addicting that I had to finish it in one day.  I really want you all to read it, it's awsome.

*****

I really enjoy Sharon Creech books.  I read LOVE THAT DOG and in the book it said that Sharon Creech had written FISHING IN THE AIR and A FINE, FINE SCHOOL.  On Mrs. Creech's "bio" it didn't say anything about A FINE, FINE SCHOOL.  It would be great if you could tell me about that book too (if it even is a book).

*****

I think that you guys should have a jokes section in your newsletter. It gets annoying when u wanna read letters but see jokes instead. And to whoever said about jk being sued, maybe it's just a rumor.
From Booker T. Worm: Thank you for your suggestion! You'll notice this week's edition of the newsletter has it's own Jokes section.

*****

I really liked the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman.  The first one is called The Golden Compass, the second is The Subtle Knife, and the last one is The Amber Spyglass.  They are over 300 pages but they are really good if you like suspensful fantasy.  I also reccomend that you leave a lot of time to read them because once you finish the first one you shouldn't read any books until you read the second and third ones.  Also any other books by Philip Pullman are really good!!  I am in 6th grade and I reccomend these for 6th grade and up.

*****

Hi!  I read a really good book called The Moon By Night.  It is by Madeline L' Engle, the author of A Wrinkle In Time!  Hope you like it!

*****

I just read one of the best stories ever. It is called "Haunted Sisters" by Lael Littke. It was one of the most scary, sad, loving book I have ever read.

*****

Hi! Thank you for the network. It helped me read alot better and to enjoy reading more then I already have. Thank you alot.

In regards to:
IF YOU READ ANY BOOK, READ THE SILVER CROWN
You should read The Silver crown. It may sond princessy, but it really and truly isn't.  I you liked Redwall of Artemis Fowl or The Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, You'll really like this.

Ohmygosh!!!!!!!!!! I am 11 years old and I just finished Artemis Fowl and I LOVE it I didn't think there were other kids that read the kind of books I read and I just started reading the Redwall series I finished Redwall but not Mossflower so I am starting on Mrtin the Warrior. Or is it Mariel the Warrior. I don't know but it is something like that. Whoever wrote that pleez write back to bookworm and tell how much u liked it. Wasn't Mulch so ????? I dun know but he was weird. I can't believe he betrayed the rest of the fairies even though he was a dwarf. But he was a kleptomaniac so what did u expect. I LOVE Harry Potter and Tamora Pierce yes u BETTER READ HER BOOKS! R.L. Stine, um... I love Sharon Creech' Bloomability, Lloyd Alexander, I just got Phillip Pullman' the Golden Compass , um.. I can't remember everyone and Eoin Colfer who wrote Artemis Fowl I hope he makes a sequel, I LOVED Ella Enchated by I forgot the author well anyway... I have more letters to reply too. Pleez I want everybody to read this long letter. Even though it is going over the limit.:-)

In regards to:
avi is so cool and i would love to meat her. she really put some imagination into my head when i read "perloo the bold" and "the true confessions of charlotte doyle". my teacher read that and i was awe struck of how creative and adventurous she was. i'm a pretty good writer myself and would love to write something one day. my favorite kind of books are animal and i made a 5 page story on a wolf. i know that that isn't very far but i guess you could say it was kind of good for an 11 year old.

I'm eleven too! Great! I have never read avi but what I have heard from u I am definitely going to seek out her books, I recommend u read um.. Paula Danziger and Gary Paulson. He wrote Tracker which is a beautiful book! I LOVE it.

In regards to:
The Left Behind series is about four kids that don't belive in Jesus Christ. Then they get left behind, abd they acsept Jesus.Whoever has been (not wanting to argue)sending in all these things to the newsletter about it beeing action-packed is write and wrong. All these stories are true, and it might happen to you guys also if you don't ascept Jesus into your heart. Please excuse me for being argumentive, but I have a right. It is a free cuontry you know

If it is a free country then that person that said it was action-packed should be able to say what he/she thinks. And I think that BOTH of u are right... because it has to do with jesus and spiritual things YET if u were left behind u would need to search for food amongst dangerous animals. People could be dying u could corpses strewn everywhere things could happen and that is why it can be action packed. So I think I have proven my point.

That's all for now!!! I luv u guysz!:-) and that last letter I just wrote I never meant to be harsh so don't kill me:-) Fellow 11 year old bookworm:-)

*****

you should review "The Barefoot Fisherman" by Paul Amdahl

*****

If you like good books with some misery in them, read the series of unforunate events.   Also for Harry Potter fans, as someone did say, another author said J.K. Rowling copied her. But I don't know if she did get sued. I dunno their sources but mine are the newspaper.

*****

I was reading a book called Fight For Life.  The series was called Wild at heart.  For Christmas I read all of the books in the series.  All day and all night I was reading them over and over.  That was the first series I read all the books and read the books over and over!!  Then my Mom bought me all the Harry Potter books and it was the same with those too!!  All my friends thought I was a nerd for reading to much.  We have a spelling test in school every Friday and I always got 100%.  My dad asked me how my spelling tests are going and I told him I got 100% on every one!!  He told me that because I read so much I am a great speller.  When the school year ended all my friends started reading a bunch like me.  Now I am a roll model for my friends.

*****

i all ready read left behide it was great.
