A NOTE FROM BOOKER

Hello!

Have you seen it yet? You know what I am talking about, of course. The Harry Potter movie!!! The wormkids and I went to see it yesterday afternoon and it was FANTASTIC! We were thrilled to see how much they followed the book instead of dropping in things and making up stuff that would make us cringe.

It was fun seeing how the director interpreted every place, every person and every thing. While we all still have our own impressions from the book, it was nice to see how someone else sees it. Think about it. You rarely talk about things like that when you read a book. The impressions that you have are yours. It's not like you draw the characters for your friends.

We are planning a survey about the movie for early next week where you can tell us what YOU think.  So keep checking Kidsreads.com to look for it!

Now for this week's news...

--Booker T. Worm

Question of the Week
Here's this week's Question of the Week:

What did you think about the Harry Potter movie?

Send your answer to YouSaid@kidsreads.com. Write "Question" in the subject line. We'll post your answers online!

The Very First Americans
November has officially been declared American Indian Heritage Month, and so in celebration we put together a HUGE round-up of books by and about Native Americans. Now you can take a closer look at what these native peoples were (and are) like in our round-up of Native American books.

MY NAME IS AMERICA Series
A companion series to the highly popular DEAR AMERICA series, MY NAME IS AMERICA features stories that are part fiction, part fact, told through the eyes of young boys from ages 12 to 16. They come from different countries and different backgrounds to make a new life in America.

BOOK REVIEWS:

SUDDENLY TWINS
What if you were minding your own business, getting ready for school, when you look into the bathroom mirror and see somebody else looking back at you? He looks just like you, only he's a boy. You're a girl. Your world runs by science, so his world runs by magic. And he needs your help desperately, or else a wicked witch named Lori Lee will take over his world and control everybody. Read SUDDENLY TWINS to find out how this adventure ends.

HALF-HUMAN
The question of how and when are we human and when we are not is presented both forcefully and subtly. The authors use the short story form well, allowing the reader to think about the stories and ask themselves what the question means both personally and to humans in general. HALF HUMAN also explores what it feels like to not "fit in". While these characters may have extras --- like wings or tails --- their stories are touching and familiar to any kid who feels left out.

We Asked, You Said
To see everyone's answers to the last Question of the Week: "If you could write a book report about any book you wanted, which book would it be?" Check out the responses at We Asked, You Said.

Quote of the Week

Enjoyment is not a goal, it is a feeling that accompanies important ongoing activity. --- Paul Goodman

Dear Booker and friends (and anyone reading),
The first letter i am want to reply to, is the one about the Zanth novels. I wish that I could spot all those great books! If i could go to Border's as often and stay there 'till they close, i bet i'd find all the best books in the world! I wish that the writer of this letter could have put the book into more detail. I wonder where him/her got it?

Next letter to reply to-
I have heard about the Dear America series. I tried to get one from the library but someone snatched up the last one! I started to read this other series like the Dear America series but I never got to finish it. sigh. :'(

Next letter:
I have heard a lot about the Dark Materials and I could never find them! Drat. I am a book LOVER , in fact our class was assigned two book reports, one on horror and one on whatever kind of book you want. The Freestyle book i got was a bonus! You won't believe what happened to me. When we went to Library class, they had gtten in a ''Brand NEW'' shipment of the GREATEST books, and I found one on ballet and dance which I LOVE also and I found the first one to the series and the second one! When we go to Library Class again this Monday I am sure that I am going to find more of that series. Oh back to this letter.(sorry) um... the writer said that there was this book called "The Great Book of Amber" and it is all about magic and I hope that I get to read it one day.
Bye guys,
A fellow 11 year old bookworm

Just Ella is a great book!! It is just like Cinderella except they tell you what happens after the ball.  She is engaged to Prince Charming in the book but later in the book she thinks he is Prince Boring he is so boring.  So she decides to tell him that she does not want to marry him.  He gets mad and says she can't do that and locks her up in the dungeoun and threatens her to stay there till the wedding day or until she gets to her senses.  It is REALLY a good book.  You have to read it.  Will she get married to the prince or go back to her own village? You will love this book.

Wow! "There's A Boy in the Girls Bathroom" was a superb book. It was very humorous story. I love the way Lois Sacher tells the story. He is a great author. I've read much of his work. All of his stories are witty. You never want to put his books down. At least I don't. I also read his book,"Frindle" which was very marvelous too. His stories are incredibly enjoyable and make you laugh out loud. I'd love to read more of his books for pleasure. They are lightweight stories, and very intriguing to the mind.

I am an avid fan of reading and have some suggestions for authors, and series you could feature. All books by Tamora Pierce are great especially for tomboy girls. You also could feature a review section where kids review different books. Also T.A. Barron is a wonderful fantasy writer.
