A NOTE FROM BOOKER

Hello!

I get a lot of questions about kidsreads.com, so I decided to take you on a quick tour of the site.

By clicking on the red banner named Authors you will be taken to a list of author biographies. There is also a link that takes you to the addresses of some of the authors we feature.

When you look down the center of the opening page, you will see links to book reviews we are featuring for the week or month. When you click on a book title, you will see a short review of the book, the ages it is best for, and the number of pages of the book. Below that you'll see the Bookshelf, which features entire books to read online.

On the left side of the opening page, you will see our links to all types of games based on popular books. You can do the trivia games online. To do the word scrambles, you need to print them out first. You can also see on the left side some other links to fun places. You can click on the Author's Birthday button to see what authors have a birthday this month.

Explore all around, and then write back to me to tell me what you liked and what else you would like to see here. In case you forgot how to write to me, look way at the top of the opening page. The third red banner says Write to Us. I look forward to hearing from you!

And now for my news this week...

THE COMIC BOOK KID
Brian and his best friend Paul are deeply into comic books. Not just fans, they are serious comic book collectors, who look up things in a guide that tells the value of every book in existence. Brian knows that his dad's 1939 Superman #1 comic book was worth more than a new house --- $130,000 to be exact. But Brian destroyed that Superman #1 when he was seven years old, five years before this novel starts, and now he's convinced that his dad hates him because of it. How can he get his father's love back? You'll want to read all about it in THE COMIC BOOK KID.

A SAILOR RETURNS
Can you imagine finding out that your grandfather is alive when you have never met him before? That's what happens to Evan when he and his mother receive a letter telling them that Evan's mom and his grandfather is still living. A SAILOR RETURNS is a great story that you won't want to miss!

"The Sunset Might Lie"
The sunset is beautiful against the grayish ocean
the colors are soft like lotion
Each and every time I look at it, somehow it's more
                  memorable
          It's beauty makes me unable
To see the truth you must look past the depth of a sunsets
      beauty
For there might be a storm approaching  somewher in a beautiful
  sunset.
my other poem is called "The One I Never Knew"
Each time I think of him I cry
And the tears I weep I will dry
For that is what he  would have done
He would have told me told me to look at the
                         memories of fun
I think of his deeply true eyes
Of his smile that could tell no lies
                         And his good senseof humor
This might be true but I do not know for he died
                           before I got to know.

             Waiting

I stare into the black of the night, waiting for something to happen.
        Nothing does.
Why do I sit and wait for nothing?
        I don't know.
Mabey I'm waiting for something for something to come,
        Something new, something unexplained.
What ever it is, I'm waiting, waiting for it to come.

I  love  to  read. I think that Eva Ibbotson is a great author. If you have read all of the Harry Potter books, I strongly recommend that you should read The Secret of Platform 13, Island of the Aunts, or Which Witch. By Eva Ibbotson. I also suggest The Circle of Magic Series by Tamora Pierce.

Dear Booker and friends,
I love to read! Especially Judy Blume books. A week ago, I finished one of her books. Its called Just As Long As We're Together and its about this girl named Stephanie. Her best friend, Rachel seems to be perfect at everything, even though she's not. Steph wanted to make friends with this new girl (named Alison) that lived by her house. She introduced her to Rachel. Rachel thought Stephanie didn't want to be best friends anymore, so she started hanging out with a girl named Stacie Green. Now Steph feels like Rachel doesn't want to be her best friend anymore. It gets all tongue-tied until one day when they get into a big fight. If you want to know what happens after the fight, you should read this book. Its funny, enjoyable, and talks about issues on growing up.

Over the summer I've been asigned to read some school books for the upcomming year!! One of the books that I found interesting was The House Of Die Drear By Virrgina Hamilton.  It was outstanding!  Full  of mystry and suspence! It's about this boy named Thomas who knows something is suspicious about his new house he is going to move in!  It hasn't been moved into by anyone for 100's of years!! A must!!
Mystery Lovers you'll love it!!!

It's me again with another great book to suggest! This book is called " Riding Freedom" It's by Pam Munoz Ryan and illurstrated by Brian Selznick.
It's another fav book of mine.
It's GREAT!
Again please try to put this book on your site somewhere.
IT WAS THE 1 OF THE BEST BOOKS I'VE EVER READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks

You didn't list Eva Ibbotson's book "The Aunts".  It's very good and is based on helping nature, so to speak.  Magickal creatures yes, but none the less, nature and our duties to protect it.  It involves children as the protectors.  Also, "Artemis Fowl" is a very good book to read if children (adults too) like the Harry Potter books.  It's based on a very cunning 12 year old who is trying to get into the underworld of faeries to get their gold.

A DOG CALLED KITTEY
IS A GOOD BOOK

Holes is the best book I have read in school. I just took the trivia test and got 15/15 right. The Harry Potter books, I think, are better though. They are exciting and you never want to put them down to do anything-You just want to keep reading to see what happens next.

* * * * *

The "Beyond Harry Potter" reading list should really include ARTEMIS FOWL by Eoin Colfer.
