A NOTE FROM BOOKER

Hello!

The wormkids are out of school now, and they are happy to have vacation time. One of their favorite things to do is to read, especially on hot afternoons. My good friend, Rita Book, decided she would have a group of kids to meet weekly at her house to try out their writing talents. She was asked by several of the kids to have this group because they wanted to become authors themselves. They love reading so much that they wanted to write books for others to enjoy.

Being an author can be hard, so Rita Book decided she would help them get started. She got copies of a great book written by a famous author that tells about her own experiences getting started. The author is Phyllis Naylor, and she is the author of the popular book called Shiloh, along with other books. In her book HOW I CAME TO BE A WRITER, she talks about her struggles to get started as a writer. She also gives ideas and tips to others who want to become authors. The group of wormkids will read the book together, and then they will start writing stories together. They will save their stories for their teachers to read when school starts again in the fall. Rita Book said she will type up their stories and will make a library display of them so that the other bookworms here can read them, too. You might want to read this book if you are interested in becoming an author one day.

And now for my news this week...

--Booker T. Worm

Father's Day Books

Sunday is a very special day... it's Father's Day! Do you have any special plans with your dad? We don't always take the time to let our dads know just how much we love and appreciate them. So, we hope this round-up of Father's Day Books will put you in the mood to do something nice for your own dear old dad on his special day.

Atlantis
The Lost Island of Atlantis has been a mystery for thousands of years. Was it real? The puzzle inspired Disney to create the new animated film Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Check out the movie tie-in books and other titles about the myth.

Aliens!  Teachers! Baloney!
This site is full of them. Meet Henry P. Baloney. Be his friend. Help him escape from the Astro Guys at http://www.baloneyhenryp.com/.

Question of the Week
Here's this week's Question of the Week:

Which book(s) do you plan to read for FUN this summer?

Send your answer to BookerTWorm@aol.com. Write "Question" in the subject line. We'll post your answers online!

From Animorphs to Remnants: K. A. Applegate
Author K.A. Applegate ended the Animorph series after writing 54 books. If you are an Animorphs fan, you can always re-read the series, or you can follow Applegate on to her next project, which is a brand new, totally exciting sci-fi series called Remnants. Click here to read the first Remnants book in the series. Throughout the month, we'll be adding chapters so you can read the ENTIRE first book online!

In this special feature we have a letter from Applegate to her fans about the end of Animorphs and the beginning of Remnants, as well as a Q&A with Applegate.

JAKARTA MISSING
JAKARTA MISSING begins with our heroine, Dakar, on an extended stay in North Dakota. She has recently moved there from Africa and her big sister Jakarta hasn't arrived yet. Her parents are explorer types: mavericks who bore easily, condescend readily and are intent on saving the world. Dakar's mom wants to give up the rambling life and make America home, but Dakar's dad wants to go back to Africa for more adventure. Dakar is stuck in a strange land with strange cheese products. She's willing to make the best of it, but she wants her sister Jakarta with her.

CISSY FUNK
CISSY FUNK is no fairy tale and there are no magical, happy, improbable endings here, but rather what you might expect from real life:  tough choices, hurt and disappointment and realistic characters with the strength and ability to redeem their lives, taking responsibility for themselves and for others, as well.  A wonderful effort by a first-time novelist with meticulous detail of the Depression era and a storyline that remains captivating to the end.

We Asked, You Said
To see everyone's answers to the last Question of the Week about who's your favorite fairy tale character in Shrek and if you could be any fairy tale character, who would it be? Check out We Asked, You Said.

Quote of the Week

Books are fun and books are scary,
ever some books are hairy,
I read a book and never could put it down,
it was the color brown,
It was interesting and fun,
It wasn't one of those books that talked about the sun,
It was didn't seem educational,
but I learned alot without even knowning it!

so many places, so many faces,
so many spaces, so many laces,

so many legs, and so many arms,
so many sea's and so many farms.

so many boys and so many girls,
so many women with there shiny new pearls.

So many you's and so many me's
so many yes's and so many no's

so many cruels
and so many nice's

so many noses,eyes, and mouths,
so many rights and so many lefts,

but no matter what we do there never be so many of lifes......

* Live your life strong, healthy and happy*

Dreaming Dreaming Dreaming
You can dream all the time,
even when it is not real,
but sometimes it will come true,
that is a real deal,
when some dreams are good,
and some dreams are bad,
then some dreams could,
become very very sad,
you can dream of a unicorn,
or even a bear,
or dream of some horns,
even though they are a scare,
you can dream of some butterflys,
or some buzzing bees,
you can dream of some other times,
that would make you pleased,
so dream on and on,
until you are gone,'
and even then you can dream,
because you are still with GOD.

                                  Friends
         A friend is always there
when you are in need of a shoulder to cry on
that is how they show that they care
they are there to pick you up when you are down
they are even there on the rarest of times
if you are down and they are too,
they always manage to rescue you.

                                          Summer
                                It may not last forever
But it stands for things like:
No school and jump in the pool
Stay up late and eat great
                                Sleep in and go places
                                and have lots of fun
But as the summer ends don't be sad
Just think of all the things you've done
                                Remember the weekends
                                and summer vacation next year!!!

For you people out there that just love to read:Let's say you go to the library, and you find this really cool book you want to read.Problem is,you don't know if it is at your reading level! Problem might be solved:If you know what reading level your in,your in half good shape. The other half is look on the back of the book for RL__(example RL6.7 or RL 5 etc) If you find that RL part, then yahoo! Some books do not have this though.RL stands for reading level. The reading level 5 means 5th grade,If your in 4th grade and can read beginning of 6th grade stuff, excellent!!!!! If you are reader having Potterosis (Harry Potter withdrawals), then this book is definately a must-read. You've got to feature it in your cool new books of the month. It's about this boy, Artemis, who is 12 years old. He's a genius, a criminal mastermind, and much more. He's found a book that can unlock secrets to the world of fairies and magic. I couldn't put it down. Please read this book and feature it on your website.
