A NOTE FROM BOOKER

Hello!

Did you do anything special for the Memorial Day weekend? Some of the older worms went to see Pearl Harbor. The kids were curious about what it was about.
I found a book on my bookshelf for them to read. It is about two boys who lived through the attack. If you would like to see what they took home to read, click on these underlined blue words: A BOY AT WAR: A Novel of Pearl Harbor by Harry Mazer. Reading about the attack from a boy their age will really let them understand what it was like to live there.

And now for my news this week...

Question of the Week
We LOVE your answers to these questions, so we are keeping it up again this week, just in case you did not get a chance to answer it:

Which was your favorite fairy tale character in Shrek? If you could be any fairy tale character, who would you be?

Send your answer to BookerTWorm@aol.com. Write "Question" in the subject line. We'll post your answers online!

SHREK Trivia
Speaking of Shrek... we've created a Shrek Trivia game! Test your knowledge of Shrek here! Also, if you haven't already done so, check out our Shrek feature, which includes reviews of the author's books as well as other Shrek books, a word scramble and a biography of the author of the original Shrek book, William Steig.

GROWING WINGS
At an age when most girls worry about hiding zits, 11-year-old Linnet McKenzie has much bigger concerns. She's wondering how she'll be able to hide the wings that have started to grow on her body.

Starting with its beautiful cover and lasting well beyond its last page, GROWING WINGS is a wonderful story of enchantment that could very well be true.

CAROLINA AUTUMN
Carolina's life looks like an outbreak of acne: bad things are erupting all over it. She was counting on her older sister Madelaine to help her start high school on the right foot. But that won't happen now because their father took Madelaine away. Carolina and her mother live alone, in a different house. But that situation isn't working out so well, either. Just when things start to look up, Carolina finds out that Mara might not be her best friend at all. A handsome neighbor boy who is fond of Carolina could change the girls' relationship forever. CAROLINA AUTUMN is a book about the ordinary and the extraordinary pains of growing up. This book shows you her path; will it lead to a happy ending?

Audiobooks
If you’ve never tried an audiobook, summer is a great time to explore this wonderful way of enjoying a book. In addition to being enormously entertaining for the whole family, audiobooks benefit kids in a multitude of ways. Even if you don't like to read, you're sure to find an audiobook that grabs your attention. Many audiobook titles are narrated by famous actors or even full casts of performers. Recent research also confirms that while you're having fun listening, you are also on the road to improving your reading ability, your vocabulary and your comprehension --- all great for getting ahead in your classes. So what are you waiting for? Check out our Audiobooks feature now!

Poems from fellow Bookworms

I looked at myself in the mirror this morning
I wasn't perfect, that's for sure
My looks may not suit everyone
But who I see is someone pure

Purer than those skinny models
That fill our magazines and shows
Better than those body builders
That no one really knows

I'm not real skinny
I'm not real tall
I'm not real quiet
I'm not reall small

I'm really really caring though,
And nice through and through
And though my beauty is just my own
I am beautiful too.

During the summer I may swim
deep into the bluest ocean
During the summer I may read
into far away lands of mystery
During the summer I may dance
to my own beat, that is
During the summer I may smile
at people across the street from me
During the summer I may leave
to travel to lands faraway
But I always know that when summer ends,
I will have another day.

Deticated to kids who don't know what to say when they are asked Want some?
There are some kids that I know of,
None of them which I so an amount of love.
They do drugs,
And don't give hugs....
One day they asked me if I want some...
they said young child come.
And then I said,
There mess up your head..
Take away your life,
and lock away your knife....
Soo then now listen you see?
D....I won't do drugs
R..... I'll respect myself
U.... I'm not going to turn ugly because of drugs
G..... I don't want to hear the oppisite word of great
S.... No one should be doing drugs!

Drugs something you should never mess with.....

I search into the hole of my life
trying to find myself.
No matter how hard I look,
I can never find my purpose.
I must hold on to my tender heart,
and not let it run so freely.
Then I figure out how to control my careless behavior,
It's Jesus Christ, my cherished savior.

Respect-Lot's of kids out there, respect there parents or guarduians. But some dont. Even though it doesn't seem that way to lots of kids our parent's do so much for who? YOU!!!! Just think your parent's or parent gives you shelter, food, clothing,But the most important thing that lot's of your parent's give you is Love!!! It's just like you treating your best friend so nicely and then she turns around and betrays you!! How would you feel? But ah ah ah don't start feeling sorry for yourself because, Most of parent's do the same thing you might have done to your best friend!! You know what I mean!? So next time you are about to whine about not getting 2 toys, only getting one, think how nice your parent (s) are for getting you even 1!!!

I would like to say something to all the young bookworms out there in the world. Never, even when friends attempt to dissuade you and life gets you down, stop reading. Reading will bring you unspeakable joy in life, and you will never, ever get bored with a good book. Invest as much time as you can to reading great literature. Although I am no longer a child, I continue to get this newsletter so that I can experience the joy of seeing you learn and grow into a love for books. Thank you for showing me that the future of reading and writing will never die out.

Hey! I just read this book called The Incident at Hawk's Hill in school! It was about this boy who does not talk to people very often and imitates the noises of animals. The boy's name is Ben! But, one day he gets lost, there is a storm out, so he decides to hide out in a hole in the ground. This hole is a badger's den! At first, they get in a big fight, but after about 2 weeks, they learn to love eachother. The badger makes Ben one of her pups. She gives him food and water and comfort! But then, Ben is found, after 3 months of living with the badger. The badger follows him home and at first does not like the family, but then gets used to them! But, the family's evil neighbor shoots the badger and he gets called off the land. Ben finds out that the badger's heart is beating, but will she (the badger) live...............
